KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) has abolished the requirement for application to obtain approval from the Sports Commissioner (PJS) for organizing sports events effective today.

This includes all local sports competitions and events organized by government agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

In fact, NGO-organized events such as charity runs no longer require approval from the PJS as before.

The minister, Hannah Yeoh, said the decision was part of the outcome of discussions through the Townhall Joint Sports Industry program on January 31 and was in line with the Madani concept to focus on problem-solving.

"KBS has decided that all local sports competitions organized by sports bodies, whether associations at the national, state, district, or registered clubs under the Sports Development Act 1997 [Act 576], do not need to obtain approval from the PJS.

"However, sports bodies need to ensure that all competitions and sports events held and attended comply with recognized guidelines. This includes health and safety measures involving participants, officials, and spectators.

"Additionally, they need to obtain insurance protection," she said at a media conference here today.

For federal, state, and local government agencies, Hannah said they need to communicate with KBS through the National Sports Department for coordination purposes.

Hannah also stated that all organizers are advised to comply with the implementation of the safe sports code in every competition and event held.
