PBIM 2026 Gains Strong Momentum as Registration Surpasses 16,000 ParticipantsThe Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) continues to receive overwhelming support, with registrations already surpassing 16,000 participants ahead of the upcoming edition. State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai recently engaged with representatives from more than 20 local running clubs during the inaugural Penang Running Clubs Dialogue, held at The Founders Hutton. The session brought together over 100 participants from Penang’s vibrant running community to share feedback and ideas on improving the marathon experience.
According to Wong, the dialogue marks an important milestone as it is the first structured engagement between PBIM organisers and running clubs in decades. The initiative aims to strengthen communication, encourage collaboration, and improve the overall organisation of the event. He highlighted that PBIM is not only a sporting event but also a key platform in promoting Penang’s sports tourism ecosystem. The marathon continues to grow in popularity, attracting both local and international runners while contributing positively to the state’s economy, particularly in the hospitality and food and beverage sectors. Wong also emphasised that safety and participant well-being remain top priorities. Enhanced medical support systems will be implemented, including collaboration with major healthcare providers and emergency response teams to ensure comprehensive coverage before, during, and after the race. In addition, race logistics have been improved, including better hydration station placement and refined scheduling to help participants complete the race safely and comfortably, especially under varying weather conditions. With registration numbers already exceeding expectations, organisers believe this reflects the growing enthusiasm for PBIM and Penang’s rising status as a premier running destination in the region. The Penang government expects the strong momentum to continue as preparations intensify, with more updates and improvements to be announced in the lead-up to race day. |
