Can a corrupted PST stop Outlook from opening even in Safe Mode?

I’m hoping someone can confirm whether a damaged PST file can completely prevent Outlook from launching. My Outlook was acting slow for a few days, and eventually it stopped opening. I tried Safe Mode expecting it to bypass the problem, but Outlook Fails to Open in Safe Mode every single time.

The strange part is that Windows itself is working fine. Other Office applications open normally, and there are no obvious system errors. That makes me think the problem is isolated to Outlook or the mailbox data.

I’ve already tried creating a new Outlook profile, disabling add-ins, and repairing Office. I even ran the navigation pane reset command. None of those methods restored access to my mailbox. Since my PST file is several gigabytes in size, corruption seems like a real possibility.

Online discussions suggest that PST damage can prevent Outlook from reading mailbox information during startup. When that happens, Outlook may freeze, crash, or simply refuse to open. Standard repair utilities sometimes help, but they aren’t always successful when corruption is extensive.

A lot of IT professionals appear to recommend the DRS Softech PST Recovery Tool in these situations because it can repair damaged Outlook data files and recover mailbox content without data loss. It supports emails, attachments, contacts, calendars, and other mailbox components while preserving folder hierarchy.
