Bike on Friday

Thank you for taking an interest in the new phase of Bike on Friday!

For the past three months we've been campaigning for a cause. Campaigning for everybody to give cycling to work a chance, to turn to the humble bicycle for commute. We call it Bike on Fridays, and it's starting right here in Penang. Now we invite you to join us for a new phase of Bike on Friday!

After weeks of campaigning, the state government of Penang has finally decided to go ahead with a bike lane project to connect Karpal Singh Drive & E-Gate with the Queens Bay Mall & the Free Industrial Zone down in the southern region of the island.

What does this mean for cyclists? Now you can beat the peak hour traffic! And feel better for it too. Imagine being able to cruise down on your bike at your own pace, then park and shower at your company. Can't imagine it? Well, that's why we're doing this.

Now let's get into the juicy details!

Meeting Details

Gather at 6:45am at Starbucks along Karpal Singh Drive for a free cup of coffee before we head out at 7:00am. There's lots of parking around and inside the Maritime building; the entrance to the covered parking area is down the side road past Starbucks.

There is parking that is absolutely free and for the whole day, and it is under cover! Here is a map of how to get there:

To access this special parking provided by the kind folks at the Maritime Suite, drive past the Starbucks and take your first left after Coffeesmith. Then take your second left into a back alley with a colour "Maritime Parking" sign outside. The gate on the right should be open, but if it isn't just tell the security to open for you, since the machine is rosak anyway.

There is plenty of parking for everyone inside the complex, and follow the arrows to find the exit that is right behind the Starbucks drive-through! So when you've found a nice parking spot, come on over to Starbucks for a cup of coffee on the house.

Here's a map of our cycle route:

We will utilise the new bike paths that our council has kindly laid down for us, but be warned that at the moment certain sections are either incomplete or have been damaged. Therefore you are encouraged to bring a bike built for some off-road use.
