The driver of a stolen pickup truck in America died after a collision with a cyclist, a second crash and a foot chase. The cyclist was miraculously unharmed.

The valiant cyclist was however, unavailable for comment. The case is still under investigation by the Sparks, Nevada Police Department.

As per a report released by the Sparks Police, the driver of a stolen pickup truck died following a series of incredible events. It began with a collision involving a bicyclist at Prater Way and El Rancho Drive on Sunday around 5 p.m.

The cyclist was an adult male and was ostensibly unfazed by being hit by a truck, because he recovered and gave chase to the stolen vehicle. The cyclist has yet to be identified.

Truck Driver Dies After Cyclist Chase

The suspect vehicle was identified as a white Dodge Dakota truck, driven by Zayven Mergan, who had attempted to flee the scene. The truck was later determined to be stolen. The police stated that Mergan was at fault in the accident with the cyclist. After hitting the cyclist on his bicycle, the cyclist had tried to prevent him from fleeing by jumping into the stolen truck's bed.

Shortly after, there was a second collision involving the same stolen truck in the 1000 block of El Rancho. The suspect Mergan fled the scene on foot, with the cyclist right behind him. Mergan stopped after running a short distance and the cyclist tried to convince him to stay put for the authorities.

However, the police did not manage to arrive in time. In the heat of the moment, Mergan threw an item at the cyclist and attempted to flee again on foot. He collapsed and was unresponsive when the police and medics finally arrived. The collapsed driver was transported to a hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

The police report stated that based on witness accounts, video coverage, and an initial examination by the medical examiner's office, there were no signs of physical trauma that could have caused Mergan's death. The report mentioned that there is currently no reason to believe that there was a physical altercation leading to his collapse and death. The cause of Mergan's death is suspected to be a medical issue, but the case will remain open pending final findings from the medical examiner and toxicology results, which will take several weeks.
